Customers have three options to choose from including OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), compatible and remanufactured ink cartridges. Many people are not familiar with these terms. When they visit the stores, they find that there are different types of ink cartridges that are compatible with their printers. OEM ink cartridge is a branded cartridge that can be used as replacement for empty cartridge of a specific printer model. OEM cartridges are expensive and not suitable for people who use their printers occasionally. You will know whether it is a genuine cartridge by checking the label on the cartridge.

Customers must check the expiration date when buying ink cartridge. Each ink cartridge can only be used for a certain period of time. You must check the expiration date to make sure it can be used for 1 – 2 years. If the expiration date is happening in a few months, you should not buy the cartridge. Besides, you should avoid trial cartridges because it has lesser inks. Trial cartridges are packed in retail boxes that look alike with the retail boxes of new OEM cartridges. However, trial cartridges have significantly lesser inks. Trial cartridges are not to be sold to customers but many sellers ignore the rules and sell them nevertheless. You should avoid cartridges that are cheap and cost below the market prices. Cheap cartridges will not perform efficiently and can damage your printer. Compatible ink cartridge can offers savings in between 40 – 80%. You should have no problem in using compatible cartridges, as long you buy one that is made by a reputable manufacturer.

It is recommended that you buy OEM ink cartridge because it is compatible to your printer. Third party ink cartridges may not be compatible with your printer. Though third party ink cartridge is cheap, it doesn’t mean it cannot be used for producing print. You can use third party cartridge for printing that doesn’t requires a lot of ink usages.

If you want to buy ink cartridge, you have to check the model of your printer. Normally, the model name of the printer has a series of alphabetical letters and numbers. Each ink cartridge is designed for a specific printer model. Therefore, it is important to buy a compatible ink cartridge. You can refer to the user manual of your printer to find out the type of ink cartridge you should buy.
